Maybe last week didn't go the way you planned. That's okay.
Sunday can feel a little strange.
Part of you may be ready for a fresh week. Another part of you may be looking around at everything you didn't get done last week and wondering how Monday is already here again.
Maybe the laundry didn't get finished.
Maybe the house isn't as clean as you wanted it to be.
Maybe you didn't make it to everything on the calendar.
Maybe you lost your patience more than you wanted to.
Maybe something happened that made the entire week feel heavier than you expected.
Or maybe you're simply exhausted.
Whatever kind of week you had, you don't have to carry all of it into the next one.
You get to start again.
Before Monday Gets Here, Check In With Yourself
As moms, caregivers, and parents, it's easy to ask ourselves whether everyone else is okay before we ever stop to ask how we are doing.
So before you start thinking about Monday's schedule, try asking yourself one simple question:
How am I really doing?
Not:
Did I accomplish everything?
Did I keep the house clean?
Did I stay patient all week?
Did I get everything on my to-do list finished?
Did I do enough?
Just:
How am I?
Maybe you're tired.
Maybe you're overwhelmed.
Maybe you're anxious about what this week will bring.
Maybe you're frustrated with yourself because things didn't go according to plan.
Maybe you're carrying something that happened last week that you're still trying to process.
Maybe you're mentally exhausted from constantly taking care of everyone else.
Maybe you're doing okay.
Or maybe you aren't really sure how you're doing yet.
All of those are okay places to start.
You Don't Have to Fix Everything Tonight
Sunday can sometimes feel like a deadline.
Get the laundry done.
Pack the lunches.
Plan the meals.
Clean the house.
Answer the messages.
Get everyone ready for Monday.
Make sure the kids have what they need.
Figure out what you're going to wear.
Remember the appointment.
Remember the school thing.
Remember the thing you forgot to remember.
And somewhere in the middle of all of that, we're supposed to find time to take care of ourselves.
No wonder Sunday nights can feel overwhelming.
But what if your Sunday reset didn't mean getting everything done?
What if it simply meant giving yourself a chance to breathe?
You don't have to solve every problem tonight.
You don't have to catch up on everything you didn't finish last week.
You don't have to become a completely different person by Monday morning.
You can simply decide:
I'm going to start where I am.
Try a Five-Minute Sunday Reset
You don't need an elaborate self-care routine.
You don't need a spa day.
You don't need an entire afternoon alone.
Start with five minutes.
Take a few slow breaths.
Give your body a moment to slow down.
Drink some water.
Sometimes we spend so much time taking care of everyone else that we forget the basics for ourselves.
Put your phone down for a few minutes.
You don't have to respond to every message tonight.
Write down what's weighing on you.
Getting something out of your head and onto paper can make it feel a little less overwhelming.
Choose one thing that actually needs your attention tomorrow.
Just one.
The rest can wait.
And if five minutes is all you have tonight, five minutes still counts.
Sometimes the Stress Is Bigger Than the To-Do List
There are weeks when the problem isn't that you have too much laundry.
Sometimes the stress is groceries.
Sometimes it's diapers.
Sometimes it's a child who needs something you don't know how to provide.
Sometimes it's money.
Sometimes it's housing.
Sometimes it's transportation.
Sometimes it's trying to parent while feeling completely overwhelmed yourself.
Sometimes you're carrying a situation that nobody else can see.
And sometimes your mental health simply isn't where you want it to be.
Those things matter.
You don't have to minimize them just because someone else may be dealing with something different.
And you don't have to tell yourself to "just get through it" every time something feels hard.
Sometimes getting through it means asking for help.
You Don't Have to Figure Everything Out Alone
If you're facing a difficult season, the KindNest Resource Library can be a place to start.
The library connects Michigan families with resources and organizations related to areas such as mental health, parenting, food assistance, housing, childcare, employment, infant care, family stabilization, and other community needs.
KindNest doesn't provide every service listed in the Resource Library. Instead, we're helping families find places, programs, and organizations that may be able to help.
Start here:
https://www.kindnestproject.org/visit-resources
And if your family needs practical assistance from KindNest, you can learn more about requesting support here:
https://www.kindnestproject.org/application
Depending on current inventory and family needs, KindNest care packages may include items such as diapers, wipes, baby essentials, children's clothing, hygiene items, and other requested family essentials.
Maybe Your Fresh Start Is Smaller Than You Think
We sometimes imagine a "fresh start" as something big.
A completely clean house.
A new routine.
A perfectly organized calendar.
A productive Monday.
A whole new outlook on life.
But maybe a fresh start is much smaller.
Maybe it's getting out of bed tomorrow and deciding not to beat yourself up over yesterday.
Maybe it's asking for help.
Maybe it's making one phone call.
Maybe it's taking your kids outside for twenty minutes.
Maybe it's going to bed a little earlier.
Maybe it's saying no to something you don't have the energy for.
Maybe it's admitting, "I'm having a hard time right now."
Maybe it's simply deciding that last week doesn't get to determine what this week will be.
You Get to Start Again
You survived the week that just ended.
Maybe you learned something.
Maybe you made mistakes.
Maybe you laughed a lot.
Maybe you cried.
Maybe you accomplished everything on your list.
Maybe you accomplished absolutely nothing on your list.
Maybe you were the mom you wanted to be.
Maybe you weren't.
You're still here.
And tomorrow is a new week.
You don't have to enter it perfectly.
You don't have to have everything figured out.
You don't have to carry everything by yourself.
Take a breath.
Start where you are.
Give yourself some grace.
And remember:
You get to start again.
Sunday Check-In
Before you head into a new week, tell us:
If you could give yourself ONE thing this week, what would it be?
A. Rest
B. Patience
C. Time alone
D. Help
E. A fresh start
F. Honestly...all of the above
You don't have to explain. Just choose a letter.
Sometimes knowing what we need is the first step toward finding it.
Need Support or Want to Help Another Family?
If your family needs help, the KindNest Resource Library is always a good place to begin:

Ways to Give:

Sometimes helping a family doesn't start with having all the answers.
Sometimes it starts with simply saying:
"Let's find a place to start."
And that's what community is for.
