One Application. One Conversation. A Place to Start.
Sometimes asking for help is the hardest part.
You may need diapers. Maybe you are running low on wipes or baby supplies. Maybe your family is dealing with an unexpected situation and you aren't sure where to turn.
And sometimes, the hardest question isn't “Do I need help?”
It's:
“Where do I even start?”
At The KindNest Project, we believe families shouldn't have to figure everything out alone.
Whether you are a new mom, a parent, grandparent, caregiver, or a family going through a difficult season, KindNest is here to listen, provide practical support when available, and help connect families with resources that may be able to help.
So, What Happens When You Reach Out?
The process is designed to be simple.
1. Start by Completing the Application
If you need assistance from KindNest, the first step is to complete our online application.
You can apply for assistance here:
Apply for Assistance Through KindNest
The application helps us understand a little more about your family, what you are currently experiencing, and what types of support may be helpful.
You don't have to have everything figured out before you apply.
Just start with the information you have.
2. We Review Your Request
After you submit your application, the KindNest team reviews the information and may reach out by text or email to confirm details.
We know that reaching out for help can feel uncomfortable. Our goal is to make the process feel respectful, personal, and judgment-free.
Your information is used to review your request and coordinate support, and KindNest treats your information confidentially.
3. We Figure Out What Support May Be Available
KindNest provides free care packages for pregnant women, new mothers, families with infants and young children, and caregivers experiencing hardship or unexpected challenges.
Depending on your family's needs and what is currently available, a care package may include things such as:
Diapers
Wipes
Baby clothing
Onesies
Sleepers
Socks
Hygiene items for mom or baby
Baby essentials
Other requested items when available
Because KindNest relies on donations and community support, we cannot always guarantee that every requested item will be available.
Inventory changes, and items may be substituted based on what has been donated and what families need most.
That doesn't mean your need isn't important.
It simply means we're working with the resources available to us while trying to help as many families as possible.
What If You Need More Than What's in a Care Package?
This is an important part of what KindNest is becoming.
Sometimes a family doesn't just need diapers.
They may need help finding food assistance.
They may need information about housing.
They may need help finding child care.
They may be looking for health care resources, counseling, transportation assistance, or another community organization that can help with a specific situation.
That's where connection becomes just as important as the care package.
KindNest is working to connect families with resources, organizations, and community partners that may be able to provide additional support.
We may not personally provide every service a family needs, but we can help families find a place to start.
You Don't Have to Know Exactly What You Need
Sometimes you know exactly what you need.
“I'm out of diapers.”
Sometimes it's more complicated.
“Something is going on at home and I don't know who can help.”
Both situations are okay.
You don't have to know the name of the program you need.
You don't have to know which organization to call.
And you don't have to have a perfect plan before reaching out.
Starting the conversation can be enough.
From there, we can work together to better understand what your family needs and identify what resources or support may be available.
What Can You Expect After Applying?
KindNest typically responds within 3–7 days, depending on demand and available inventory.
When assistance is available, families may be scheduled for pickup or delivery, depending on the circumstances and what KindNest is able to offer at the time.
Because KindNest is currently experiencing significant demand, some urgent requests may be prioritized.
We know that waiting for help can be difficult. We also know that families have different circumstances and different needs.
That's why we try to approach each request individually.
KindNest Is Growing Because Families Are Talking
Since beginning in February 2025, KindNest has assisted more than 475 families.
But the numbers are only part of the story.
Every application tells us something about what families are experiencing.
Every care package tells us something about what families need.
Every conversation helps us understand where there are gaps in our community.
And every person who reaches out helps us think about what KindNest can do better.
We are continuing to build partnerships, expand community connections, develop resources, and create more ways to support families.
Our goal isn't simply to hand someone a box and send them on their way.
It's to help families feel seen, supported, and connected.
What If You're Not Sure Whether You Qualify?
If you're a pregnant woman, new mother, caregiver, or family with infants or young children experiencing hardship, you may be eligible to request assistance.
KindNest currently provides assistance in Michigan.
If you're not sure whether your situation fits, you can still start by learning more or reaching out to the KindNest team.
You don't have to decide whether your situation is “bad enough” on your own.

You Don't Have to Figure It Out Alone
Asking for help doesn't mean you've failed.
Sometimes it means you're doing exactly what a parent or caregiver is supposed to do — finding a way to make things a little better for your family.
Maybe that starts with diapers.
Maybe it starts with a resource.
Maybe it starts with a conversation.
Whatever your starting point is, KindNest is here to help you find it.
