Friday Fun: No Big Plans Required

It's Friday.

And after everything this week may have thrown at you, we're officially declaring:

You don't have to accomplish anything impressive today.

You made it through the week.

That counts.

Maybe the laundry isn't finished.

Maybe the dishes are judging you.

Maybe there are toys in places toys absolutely should not be.

Maybe you answered approximately 47 questions before 9 a.m.

Maybe dinner tonight is whatever everyone can find.

And honestly?

That's okay.

Today isn't about being productive.

Today is about finding something that makes you smile.

Your Friday Permission Slip

Consider this your official KindNest permission slip to:

Laugh at something ridiculous.

Dance in the kitchen.

Eat the snack you bought for the kids.

Put your phone on Do Not Disturb for 20 minutes.

Watch something you've already seen 14 times.

Order the easy dinner.

Let the kids make a mess for the sake of having fun.

Sit outside for five minutes and do absolutely nothing.

Go to bed early.

Stay up late.

Wear the comfy clothes.

Say "not today" to something that can wait until tomorrow.

You don't need a reason.

Let's Play a Little Friday Game

We're calling this:

"Finish the Sentence."

No overthinking.

No perfect answer.

Just your first thought.

This weekend, I really want to ________.

Maybe your answer is:

"Sleep."

"Eat something I don't have to share."

"Watch football."

"Go somewhere."

"Stay home."

"Finish a book."

"Do absolutely nothing."

"Have a kid-free hour."

"Have a family movie night."

"Get my house somewhat under control."

Anything goes.

And Here's the Fun Part...

Leave your answer in the comments.

Then read through the other answers.

Because I have a feeling we're going to discover something:

A whole lot of moms are probably wishing for the exact same thing.

Maybe your answer makes another mom laugh.

Maybe someone reads it and thinks:

"Oh my gosh. ME TOO."

Maybe somebody gets a great idea for their weekend.

And maybe we all remember that we're not the only ones trying to make it through the beautiful, chaotic, exhausting, hilarious thing called family life.

Bonus Round

Okay, one more.

Complete this sentence:

If I had three completely uninterrupted hours this weekend, I would...

Don't say what you should do.

Don't say what your family needs.

Don't say what is productive.

Tell us what you would actually do.

Sleep?

Shop?

Read?

Nap?

Eat?

Watch TV?

Take a long shower?

Sit in your car in complete silence?

We won't judge.

In fact, we're pretty sure there are going to be some very honest answers.

One More Thing...

If nobody has told you lately:

You're doing better than you think you are.

You don't have to have the perfect house.

You don't have to have the perfect schedule.

You don't have to make every moment meaningful.

Your kids don't need a Pinterest-perfect childhood.

They need you.

The real you.

The tired you.

The silly you.

The "I have no idea what we're having for dinner" you.

The you who sometimes loses your patience and then comes back and tries again.

The you who loves them fiercely.

That's enough.

Friday Challenge

Before the day is over, do one tiny thing just because it makes you happy.

Not because it needs to get done.

Not because someone asked you to.

Not because it will make you more productive.

Just because.

And if you do it, come back and tell us what it was.

We'll start.

KindNest's Friday challenge:

Do something that makes you laugh today.

Now it's your turn.

COMMENT BELOW:

What's one thing you're doing this weekend purely because YOU want to?

Let's make the comments the happiest part of this post.

Happy Friday, moms.

You made it.

Now go have a little fun.
